Cryptocurrencies are gaining more momentum than ever.
And of course, most of us know that Bitcoin is leading this charge, but altcoins are not far behind.
One such altcoin is Litecoin, which I have already covered in quite detail:
Just to put in perspective the kind of growth Litecoin had this year, here is a fact check:
- Litecoin has surged this year +3500%, so if you had invested a nominal $100 in LTC at the start of the year, then at the time of this writing, you would have made approx $3500 from that investment, which is a hefty return that you certainly don’t get from traditional investments.

Best Exchanges To Buy Litecoin (LTC)
This bull run and popularity of Litecoin has led to the proliferation of numerous websites/exchanges that allow you to buy Litecoin. If you make a simple Google search for “Best Litecoin Exchanges”, you will find an overwhelming number of exchanges and websites that let you buy Litecoin.
But the problem is: Which ones are legit and which ones are not?
So let’s look at this exclusive list of the best Litecoin trading platforms to help you buy and/or sell Litecoin.
Based out of Hong Kong and operational since 2014, Bitfinex is the world’s largest Bitcoin exchange by BTC volume.
But it not only allows its users to buy Bitcoin, it also allows buying/selling Litecoin, Dash, Zcash, Monero, Ripple, and other popular cryptocurrencies.
One can buy these currencies (including LTC) in exchange for BTC or USD from Bitfinex (with a wire fee of at least $20). Also, one will need to pay a trade fee which varies from 0.1% to 0.8% (details here).
Also, whenever you withdrawal or deposit anything, you are charged a certain fee according to the below-shown schedule:
To get started on Bitfinex, you need to register, verify your ID, and authenticate yourself. It typically takes 15-20 business days after submitting valid ID proof before you’re accepted into the platform.
And whenever you get bored with their web version or want to trade on-the-go, you can use Bitfinex’s and mobile apps.
Note: Bitfinex doesn’t allow US customers anymore.
Binance is an aggressively growing cryptocurrency exchange in the cryptosphere.
In less than 6 months it has added support for more than 100 cryptocurrencies and now they support Litecoin too.
Litecoin is like Bitcoin’s Gold to silver. If you wish to see our detailed guide on Litecoin then visit this.
Coming back to Binance, Binance being a centralized exchange has taken a unique take to expand its business and also provides a decent 50% discount for day traders if they use BNB coins. BNB is Binance Coin which is the native currency of this platform.
Binance’s fee structure is also unique. To start with they have 0.1% standard trading fee which is already quite less than other peers. You can even reduce your fee further if you pay your trading fee in BNB according to the below-shown structure.
To get started with Binance you need to register using your email ID and the process is quite simple & fast.
Binance is also one of the few exchanges that offer a mobile app for iOS and Android users to trade on the go and also has multilingual support in more than 5 languages for mass adoption.
Coinbase is a US-based exchange. It the world’s most popular exchange to buy and sell Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Litecoin. They support the purchase of Litecoin (LTC) via Visa/MasterCard credit and debit cards.
For this, your credit/debit card should support ‘3D Secure’. To find out if your card supports this, you can just try adding your card to Coinbase, and it will give you an error if it can’t be processed.
You can instantly buy Litecoin through Coinbase, provided that they serve your country. At present, they only serve 32 countries. You can check if their service is available in your country here.

- Click on +Add Payment Method on the right-hand side.

Based out of San Francisco U.S.A. and operational since 2011, Kraken is one of the biggest Bitcoin exchanges out there. Even though they are based in the US, they are one of the largest EUR to crypto markets in the world.
Apart from Bitcoin, they also provide trading of Litecoin (LTC), Ethereum (ETH), Monero (XMR), Dash (DASH), Ripple (XRP), Stellar/Lumens (XLM), Ethereum Classic (ETC), Augur REP tokens (REP), ICONOMI (ICN), Melon (MLN), Zcash (ZEC), Dogecoin (XDG), Tether (USDT), Gnosis (GNO), and EOS (EOS).
You can buy/sell these cryptocurrencies (including LTC) with 5 fiat currencies – USD, GBP, JPY, EUR, and CAD – by SEPA or wire transfer.
At this time, they don’t support buying through credit/debit cards.
Other notable features of Karken are:
- Two-factor authentication.
- Email supports PGP/GPG signing and encryption.
- Create a master key for account recovery.
You can check the fee schedule of Kraken here.
Kraken accounts take some time to get verified. There are three tiers, and getting through them all can require some patience. To make sure everything goes smoothly, be sure to take the proper steps.
If you are from one of those countries where Coinbase/Kraken is not operational, then you can buy Litecoin from Changelly, as it is open for most of the countries in the world if you have a debit/credit card or you want to exchange your BItcoin or other crypto for Litecoin.
Note: Rates are quite high at Changelly, but at the same time, it’s the easiest to use.
- Buy LTC with a debit/credit card at Changelly:
If you have a VISA/MasterCard debit or credit card, you can instantly sign up for Changelly and buy LTC.
It accepts any currency of any country (EUR/GBP/USD/INR/etc.) and then calculates it in its USD equivalent. You can find USD to LTC exchange rates here.
And here is their official step-by-step guide introducing this feature of debit/credit card exchange. (Even though this guide is for buying BTC using a VISA/MasterCard, the process is the same for buying LTC.)
- Buy LTC with other cryptos at Changelly:
Another way to get ahold of Litecoin (LTC) is to get it exchanged through Changelly. To do this, you will need the following things:
- Your Litecoin address where you would like to get your Litecoin. (Choose your Litecoin Wallet here.)
- Bitcoins/other altcoins to exchange for Litecoin.
Head toward basilpuglisi’s Cryptocurrency Exchange – Changelly and follow the steps given in this guide.
Note: Though the guide shows how to buy Ripple in exchange for BTC, the process is exactly the same for buying Litecoin.
6. CoinDelta [India Only]
CoinDelta is a new exchange. It offers 6 cryptocurrencies (including LTC) to Indian investors.
Right now, they provide Litecoin only in exchange of fiat currency (i.e. INR), but they have quite a low trading volume as it is still their early days.
The registration process is typically the same as registering for any other Indian exchange where you need to provide your Indian national ID proofs. The whole verification process doesn’t take more than 24 hours, and then you are all set to trade.
And here is their fee schedule, which is quite competitive.
Note: This is for Indian nationals only.
7. Koinex [India Only]
Koinex is an another Indian exchange that is getting quite good traction from Indian crypto investors.
At present, Koinex offers trading in the following cryptocurrencies against INR:
- BCH (Bitcoin Cash)
The registration and verification process is similar to any other Indian exchange, and your account gets evaluated in 24-48 hours.
Another thing that I like about them is that they have put together short video guides for all activities on Koinex like signing up, KYC application, trading, deposit, and withdrawals. This will help them in the long-term to onboard many crypto investors.
I have listed Poloniex at the end because it is one of the most popular cryptocurrency exchanges which needs no introduction at all.
Founded by Tristan D’Agosta in the US, Poloniex has been operational since January 2014 and is supporting more than 100 cryptocurrencies, including Litecoin.
Poloniex has one of the highest known liquidity rates for cryptocurrencies, so you can come anytime to buy/sell popular cryptocurrencies like BTC, LTC, or ETH.
Currently, Litecoin has the following market pairs on Poloniex:
And it also offers a decent fee schedule as it charges a fee of 0.15% to 0.25% on all trades depending upon whether you are a maker or a taker.
Best Litecoin Exchanges
As I shared with you before, there are too many options out there in the market to buy Litecoin, and these options will only increase with time.
In a way, it is good because this will increase competition in the market and provide better exchange rates to users.
Also, this increase in options will naturally call forth the need to distinguish legit exchanges from scammy ones.
That’s why the next thing I will do is append this list with more trusted resources/websites to buy Litecoin, and keep you informed on basilpuglisi!
Stay tuned and keep investing 🙂
